Who else has items in their closet with the tags still on? Yup, same. How about that dress/skirt/tee shirt that you only wore once, and will never wear again (despite telling yourself you WILL wear it, eventually)? Also same. When setting my intentions for 2019, I made a commitment to my readers to STOP with the one + done, “MUST HAVE” items. Instead, my focus is on pieces that may be styled multiple ways and take you from errands to office, to presentation day to happy hour. When I found this skirt, I knew it was a versatile item the minute I put it on!
Casual Skirt Outfit:
When I was sliding on this skirt on I thought in my head “there’s no way I can wear this with flat shoes.” Wrong. I was wearing slip on sneakers and was surprised to how flattering the combination looked. I’m just under 5’3″ and technically wear petite, so I sometimes have a tough time with regular fit mid length skirts and dresses because they make me look stumpy. However, the high waist, slim fit of this skirt is flattering even on a shorter frame, regardless of the shoes you’re wearing.
Another tip as a petite girl is to pair midlength items like this skirt with a form fitting top. This $20 tank is a great summer basic! I wore my Stan Smith sneakers for this look, but it would look just as cute with slip on sneakers or sneaker wedges. I added my leather jacket and my everyday leather bag. You could easily throw on additional accessories like a baseball cap, sunnies, or a layered necklace!
Workwear Skirt Outfit:
To make this outfit work appropriate, it really only takes two swaps (with items/similar items you already own)! First, I swapped the leather jacket for this duster cardigan. A cardigan is acceptable for a business casual office, but if you work in a business formal environment, a blazer may be a better choice! I love this chambray blazer and it’s a nice, lighter option for spring or summer. If I still worked corporate, I would wear either cardi or blazer depending on my schedule for the day. Meetings or presentations=always uplevel with the blazer! I then swapped the sneaks for my go-to nude pumps. They also come in a ton of fun colors for spring! If you’re not a heels girl, a chic pair of flats or loafers would do the trick!
I love finding versatility in everyday pieces! Even though I work from home I still find myself wanting to look more formal and put together as I approach 3-0 (eep)! If you want to see more of these posts, leave me a comment on my Instagram or here on the blog!
