One of the biggest questions in the wedding planning process is: “Should I hire a wedding planner?” It’s difficult to figure out how to hire the right person and decide up front if it’s worth the investment. It was my most researched question in the wedding planning process. Today I’m sharing the perspective of myself as well as recently married friend’s to why or why not we hired wedding planners to help us coordinate our wedding days!
Pros and Cons to Hiring a Wedding Planner:
I think the easiest way to figure out if anything is right for you is to list out the pros and cons of your internal debate. Seeing lists written in paper in your own handwriting always helps to visualize.
Pros of Hiring a Wedding Planner:
- Help with timeline and coordinating
- Someone to act as your guide when it comes to wedding etiquette
- A resource to help you with whatever part of the process you’re dreading
- your own mini manager to help you keep all your vendors on track, espeically the day of
Cons of Hiring a Wedding Planner:
- Cost. I priced shopped. I was quoted $7,000 by a planner!
- Relinquishing some control over the planning process
- A planner is like another vendor-requires extra conversations and tasks
Did I Hire a Wedding Planner?
Yes! I hired a wedding planner to help me with back end coordination. Personally, I enjoy vendor shopping, quoting, and negotiating. That part of planning is something I truly enjoy doing. However, now that I’m nearing the end of coordinating, which requires follow up, timeline, logistics-I am soo ready to start handing tasks off to my wedding planner! The day of the wedding I am relieved to have someone I can trust that will put out any unforeseen fires. I am looking forward to being 100% engaged with Sean and my guests and not worry about minute details!
At the end of the day, deciding if a wedding planner is right for you is a personal decision for you and your significant other (and whoever is contributing to the wedding financially). I hope these tips helped you decide if a wedding planner is the right choice for you!
Emily, married September 2018:
“I originally only considered hiring a day of coordinator after I received quotes from multiple wedding planners and realized the expense. My wedding was across the country and my family also did not live in the area I got married. Reflecting back, I would recommend to everyone to get at least a day of coordinator. This person completely runs the show so that you and your family can relax. They do this for a living and have seen it all. There are so many little details that I never thought about.Additionally, I would highly recommend anyone who is getting married where they don’t live or have family (destination wedding), to hire a wedding planner. They have a huge network of vendors, organization tools, and experience that they will make your dream day come to life.”
