I’m just going to come right out and say that NYE is not my favorite holiday. Not to be a Debbie Downer, but Christmas and 4th of July FAAR exceed NYE, at least in my book. Overall, in my experience, the night always ends up feeling overrated. To change things up and get rid of the sour taste in our mouth about our past NYE’s, we decided to trade an expensive night out to host a festive (and much cheaper) night in. I may say this every year, but I think this year’s going to be the best yet! Even though we’re staying in, I still want to have some fun planning my NYE outfit.
To make our night fun for our almost dirty-thirty-year-young (eek!) group of friends we decided to host a party that’s a fusion of nostalgia for our more carefree (careless?) college days, coupled with a celebration to our more wise, in-bed-by-nine lifestyle. I won’t go in to the details of our theme, but it’s going to be a ridiculous one. Requirement: NYE outfit must coordinate with the theme.
If NYE doesn’t scream at you to wear sequins, I don’t know what holiday does! I used to have a pair of sequin leggings in college, and I called them my “Cinco de Mayo pants” because that is the only occasion I wore them! The pair I’m wearing here is a more upscale version of the pair I had in college (take my word for it). I love the velvet texture of these leggings, which definitely steps them up a notch. I.E. More classy, less sticky college bar (but if you are in college they totally work! Or if you know how to rewind time so I can be back in college please LMK).
How I styled Sequins:
I paired the leggings with this green peplum velvet top (similar version also linked here)-green just felt festive and different than my usual go-to blue. These leggings would also look cute with an oversized sweater, pretty cami and faux fur jacket, or an understated embellished white tee!
I added some fun heels and tiered earrings because I lean towards more-than-less for NYE, but you can totally keep it simple with black pumps or bow flats and diamond or pearl studs!
What are your NYE plans to ring in 2018? Or what have you done in the past that made NYE memorable?
